Fire Litigation
We represent wildfire survivors whose homes, land, businesses, and livelihoods have been devastated by catastrophic fires caused by utilities, public entities, and other negligent actors. From family homes to sprawling ranches, we combine large-scale litigation experience with personal advocacy to help clients recover after unimaginable loss.
Helping Fire Survivors Rebuild & Recover
Wildfires change lives in an instant. Beyond the destruction of homes and property, survivors are often left navigating displacement, financial uncertainty, environmental contamination, business interruption, and the emotional toll of losing places and livelihoods built over generations. At Serino & Nocon LLP, we represent individuals, families, growers, ranchers, and businesses harmed by catastrophic fires throughout California and across the country. Our firm handles claims arising from fires caused by utility companies, public entities, contractors, and other negligent actors whose conduct places communities at risk.
Our Experience
Our attorneys have extensive experience litigating some of the largest wildfire matters in the nation. We represented hundreds of residents affected by the PG&E Wildfire Bankruptcy, including survivors from Paradise and communities throughout Northern California, recovering more than $100 million on behalf of clients. We also represented more than 500 property owners in the Kincade Fire, including landowners with properties exceeding 3,000 acres. Natasha Serino was appointed Co-Liaison Counsel for individual plaintiffs in the Canyon Fire Litigation and also served as Co-Liaison Counsel in the Marshall Fire litigation in Colorado, which resolved in 2025. Our firm currently represents survivors impacted by the LA Fires.
Our Approach
While we have represented thousands of wildfire survivors, our approach remains highly personal and detail-oriented. We understand that no two losses are alike. Our attorneys work directly with clients to understand not only the physical damage to property, but also the long-term impact on families, businesses, operations, and livelihoods. We routinely handle large-scale and highly complex property losses involving multi-generational ranches, agricultural operations, conservation preserves, wineries, vineyards, equestrian properties, and cattle ranches encompassing hundreds — and in some cases thousands — of acres. These cases often involve extensive damage to land, vegetation, irrigation infrastructure, fencing, water systems, livestock operations, and business income streams that require sophisticated analysis and expert evaluation.
Unique Properties and Damages
Over the past decade, we have developed substantial experience representing agricultural and rural property owners, including avocado growers, vineyard owners, ranchers, and clients with mature and irreplaceable trees and vegetation. Many wildfire losses extend far beyond what is visible immediately after the fire. Smoke, soot, and ash contamination alone can devastate crops, damage soil quality, impact irrigation systems, contaminate structures, and reduce long-term productivity even where flames never directly reached the property. In many instances, these losses are not fully covered by insurance policies.
Expert Assistance
Our firm works closely with arborists, agricultural consultants, engineers, remediation experts, economists, accountants, and other specialists to fully evaluate these unique damages and maximize recovery for our clients. We understand the operational realities facing home and business owners whose lives are uprooted by fire and then the recovery process. Whether representing a homeowner or business, we can guide you through the process. We also have extensive experience with complex claims involving family vineyards, cattle operations, golf courses, or businesses dependent on landscaping and vegetation, we appreciate how wildfire damage can affect every aspect of a client’s operations and future profitability.
Insurance Advising
In addition to litigation, we regularly counsel clients regarding insurance and rebuilding issues that arise after catastrophic fires. We can assist with reviewing insurance coverage, evaluating rebuilding decisions, assessing contractor proposals, and identifying damages that may not be fully compensated through insurance claims alone. Our team also helps clients document damages to structures and property features that are frequently overlooked during the adjustment process.
Potential recoverable damages may include:
Residential dwellings and underinsured structures
Guest homes, ADUs, barns, stables, sheds, and pump houses
Agricultural buildings and operational infrastructure
Irrigation systems, wells, and water delivery systems
Fencing, gates, corrals, and livestock-related improvements
Pool, hardscape, and landscaping damage
Solar equipment and utility infrastructure
Erosion, slope failure, culvert, and drainage damage
Mature trees, orchards, vineyards, and vegetation loss
Crop damage and agricultural production losses
Smoke, soot, and environmental contamination
Business interruption and lost income
Wildfire litigation demands substantial resources, technical knowledge, and a deep understanding of the long-term consequences these disasters impose on individuals, families, and businesses. At Serino & Nocon LLP, we are committed to helping wildfire survivors pursue accountability, rebuild their communities, and recover the compensation necessary to move forward.
