Complex Employment Litigation with Proven Results

At Serino & Nocon LLP, we represent employees in complex workplace disputes involving unpaid wages, unlawful pay practices, meal and rest break violations, inaccurate wage statements, misclassification, retaliation, and other violations of the California Labor Code. California has some of the strongest employee protections in the country, but employers frequently fail to comply with these laws — particularly in industries with complicated payroll systems, shifting schedules, commission structures, or large workforces. Our firm is committed to holding employers accountable when they place profits over compliance and worker rights.

We handle a broad range of employment matters on behalf of individual employees, groups of workers, and classes of employees throughout California. Our practice includes:

  • Wage and hour litigation

  • Unpaid overtime claims

  • Meal and rest break violations

  • Off-the-clock work claims

  • Misclassification claims

  • Wage statement and paystub violations

  • Waiting time penalties

  • Reimbursement claims

  • Representative actions under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA)

  • Class and collective actions

  • Workplace retaliation and wrongful termination claims

California employment law imposes strict requirements on employers regarding payroll transparency and accurate wage reporting. Employees are entitled to wage statements that clearly and accurately reflect the hours worked, rates of pay, deductions, and wages earned so they can verify whether they are being paid properly. When employers use confusing or incomplete pay systems, workers are often unable to detect errors, underpayments, or unlawful deductions affecting their compensation.

Ms. Serino and co-founder Shannon Nocon have substantial experience litigating these complex claims. Together, they represented Alaska Airlines flight attendants in a significant wage and hour action against Alaska Airlines involving violations of the California Labor Code. The litigation resulted in a $25 million judgment at trial arising from, among other things, the airline’s failure to provide legally compliant paystubs to employees. Due to the complexity of the airline’s compensation system, flight attendants were unable to determine whether they had been paid correctly or identify payroll errors from the wage statements they received.

The case involved highly technical payroll and statutory issues and required extensive litigation and trial work. Ms. Serino tried the case while six months pregnant, reflecting the firm’s dedication to advocating tirelessly for employees facing large corporate employers.

Employment cases are often about more than unpaid wages alone. Workers depend on fair compensation to support themselves and their families, and unlawful payroll practices can have serious financial consequences over time. Our firm understands that many employees fear retaliation or feel powerless to challenge unlawful workplace practices, particularly when facing large employers with significant resources. We are committed to providing strategic, aggressive, and compassionate representation to employees seeking accountability and fair treatment under the law.

Whether pursuing claims on behalf of an individual employee or prosecuting large-scale representative and class actions, Serino & Nocon LLP is dedicated to protecting workers’ rights and enforcing California’s labor laws.
